NANNING, June 9 (Xinhua) -- A rain-triggered flash flood inundated several low-lying houses in a village in southeast China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on Sunday.

Firefighters are carrying out rescue efforts in the village of Xiaorong in Rongshui County. The exact number of people trapped in the flood was not immediately provided. A single death has been attributed to a house collapse.

Rescuers have brought 15 people to safety thus far.

Persistent rain has toppled houses and submerged roads in the region, as well as led to excessive water levels on some rivers.

More rain is expected to hit Guangxi after Sunday afternoon.
