National Museum of China acquires Xinhua photos of Diaoyu Islands patrols

BEIJING, June 5 (Xinhua) -- The National Museum of China on Wednesday acquired a Xinhua reporter's photos of Chinese surveillance ships patrolling the country's territorial waters surrounding the Diaoyu Islands.

The photos were taken by Zhang Jiansong, a reporter for the state-run Xinhua News Agency, on Sept. 14 last year, when a fleet composed of surveillance ships 50, 15, 26, 27, 51 and 66 patrolled waters surrounding the Diaoyu Islands to demonstrate China's sovereignty over the islands and ensure the country's maritime interests.

Zhang was the only journalist on the fleet during the patrol. Nearly 50 of her photos were acquired by the museum.

China has delimited and published the base points and baselines of its territorial sea area of Diaoyu Island and its affiliated islets in accordance with the Law of the People's Republic of China on the Territorial Sea and the Contiguous Zone.
