CHANGSHA, May 2 (Xinhua) -- A 55-year-old man died Wednesday morning in central China's Hunan Province due to an infection of H7N9 avian flu, local health authorities said.

The patient, a man surnamed Jiao, died after medical treatment failed to save him, according to an official from the provincial health and family planning department.

Jiao, a native of neighboring Jiangxi Province, tested positive for the flu and was transferred from the Liuyang Municipal People's Hospital to the Changsha Municipal Center for Disease Control and Prevention on April 26 after eleven days of exhibiting symptoms.

One unrelated bird flu infection was reported in the province's city of Shaoyang on Wednesday.
