BEIJING, April 3 (Xinhua) -- As many as 500 students from universities and schools visited the Jinggang mountains in east China's Jiangxi Province, dubbed the "cradle of the Chinese revolution," ahead of the upcoming Tomb-Sweeping holiday.

The event, from March 26 to April 8, was organized by the Communist Youth League of China.

Students paid respect to the martyrs who gave their lives to the founding of New China, and reviewed the oaths of joining the Communist Youth League of China and Communist Party of China.

They also learned how to wrap straw, make stretchers and treat the wounded in order to gain an understanding of the Chinese history of revolution.

The Tomb-Sweeping holiday is a day for Chinese people to pay tributes to deceased family members. Groups are also organized to commemorate revolutionary pioneers.

The event marked the beginning of a new round of patriotism promoting activities involving the education of Communist beliefs, quality training, social practice and ecological protection, organizers said.

The first round of such activities was launched in June last year. Since then, more than 3,000 students and youth league officials have been trained.

Eight decades ago, Chinese leaders Mao Zedong and Zhu De founded China's first rural revolutionary base in Jinggang mountainous region. Between 1927 and 1929, Mao and Zhu established a soviet power base there, thus promoting China's armed revolution and resulting in the founding of New China in 1949.

The name of the Jinggang mountains has been regarded as the "cradle of the Chinese revolution" and become a major attraction for tourists.
