Snowstorm to hit northeast China

16:39, November 12, 2012

BEIJING, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) -- An orange alert has been issued with snowstorms expected in northern China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and the northeast provinces of Jilin and Heilongjiang in the next two days, the National Meteorological Center (NMC) has forecast.

China has a four-color-coded warning system, with red being the most serious, followed by orange, yellow and blue.

Other parts of northeast China will have light to moderate snow or sleet. The NMC said temperatures in most parts of northeast China will fall by four to six degrees Celsius, with strong winds expected.

Some regions could experience temperature drops by eight degrees Celsius, it added.

Over the next three days, a strong cold front will continue to bring light to moderate snow or sleet to north and southwest China. Light and showery rain may fall in some regions in south China, including Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Yunnan and Guizhou provinces, said the NMC.
