BEIJING, April 18, (ChinaMil) -- Chang Wanquan, state councilor and minister of national defense of the People's Republic of China (PRC), met with Carlos Augusto, director of the Strategic Affairs Department under the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Brazilian Armed Forces who came to China to participate in the third meeting of the Joint Commission on the Exchanges and Cooperation between the Chinese and Brazilian Defense Ministries (hereinafter referred to as the "Joint Commission"), on April 17, 2013 in Beijing.
Chang Wanquan pointed out that China-Brazil relations have been developing rapidly in an all-round way in recent years as evidenced by frequent high-level contacts, deepened mutual political trust, good coordination and cooperation in major international and regional affairs, and more pragmatic defense and military exchanges. The Chinese military attaches great importance to the development of the relations between the two militaries and hopes the two sides will make joint efforts to constantly deepen the bilateral exchanges and cooperation in various fields. The Chinese side is convinced that with the constant improvement of the Joint Commission as an institutionalized platform, the two sides are bound to further deepen bilateral cooperation, so as to provide "positive energy" to maintaining international and regional peace and stability.
Augusto said that the two sides reached important consensus on high-level reciprocal visits, personnel training and professional skills through the third meeting of the Joint Commission. Brazil and China have common opportunities for development and their militaries enjoy great potential for cooperation. He hoped the two sides will further strengthen pragmatic cooperation and jointly push forward the development of the relations between the two militaries.
