Chang Wanquan meets with Swedish chief of defense staff

BEIJING, April 17, (ChinaMil) -- Chang Wanquan, state councilor and minister of national defense of the People's Republic of China (PRC), met with Jan Salestrand, the visiting Swedish chief of defense staff who came to pay an official goodwill visit to China, and his party on the afternoon of April 16, 2013 in Beijing.

Chang Wanquan expressed that Sweden is the first western country to establish diplomatic relations with new China. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, the bilateral relations have undergone steady development as evidenced by frequent high-level contacts, deepened mutual political trust and remarkable achievements in pragmatic cooperation in various fields. With the all-around development of the relations between the two countries, the relations between the Chinese and Swedish militaries have also maintained a good momentum of development, as evidenced by frequent contacts among leaders of the two militaries and increasingly deepened cooperation in professional fields in recent years. The Chinese side attaches importance to its relations with the Swedish side, and is willing to make joint efforts with the Swedish side to constantly push forward the friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries and the two militaries to a new high on the basis of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit.

Jan Salestrand said that Sweden appreciates the contributions China has made to maintaining world peace and stability, and is willing to strengthen exchanges and cooperation in such professional fields as naval escort and peacekeeping operations with the Chinese military, so as to jointly deepen the development of the relations between the two militaries.
