The reporter interviewed several deputies of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) to the National People's Congress (NPC) on March 4, 2013.
"Chairman Xi Jinping said that it is imperative to greatly promote the spirit of study. In my opinion, a serviceman should be dedicated to studying how to fight, that is, study what he/she does and supplement what he/she lacks, so as to constantly improve the capability to win battles," said Rong Guiqing, PLA deputy to the NPC and commander of a group army under the Jinan Military Area Command (MAC) of the PLA.
"If a serviceman dose not study, he should fail in his duty and will be eliminated through competition," said Wang Yu, PLA deputy to the NPC and president of the Naval Armaments Academy of the PLA, "With the increasing diversification of the tasks entrusted to the PLA Navy, facing the new situation and the new challenges, such as the escort mission in the Gulf of Aden, we should transform the equipment construction to achieve innovative development." Wang Yu said that an equipment researcher should not only keep his/her eyes on world's cutting-edge technology, but also acquire elementary knowledge of combat troop units and improve strategic thinking.
"Study can make miracles." Wang Yu said that the commissioning of China's first aircraft carrier "Liaoning ship" and the successful landing of the first carrier-borne aircraft are vivid examples, and we should develop a habit of studying as naturally as breathing air which is indispensable to life.
"It boils down to one sentence, i.e. in study we trust." Xiang Nanlin, PLA deputy to the NPC, PLA model of "becoming well-educated through study" and political director of the Antiaircraft Gun Battalion of a division under the Shenyang MAC of the PLA, said that it is essential to greatly promote the spirit of study, so as to realize the "Chinese dream" and the "powerful military dream"!
