Approved by leaders of the General Logistics Department (GLD) of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), the Quartermaster, Materials and POL (petroleum, oil and lubricants) Department under the GLD of the PLA recently issued a document entitled the Ten Measures for Practicing Economy and Combating Waste in the PLA Troop Units' Food Support to require the PLA troop units to strictly practice economic food support and resolutely combat food waste.

The ten measures are very specific and practical. For instance:

In implementing standardized recipes, "food expenses are prohibited from being used for official business entertainment";

In improving the utilization ratio of food materials, "leftover food materials should be fully used to make pickles and cold vegetable dishes";

In improving food quality, "leftovers should be scientifically used to make fried steamed-bun, fried rice with eggs and stew, etc., so as to make the best use of everything";

In all-roundly implementing the individual dining system, "all the guest houses in the military are strictly prohibited from serving high-grade dishes".

During an interview, a leader of the Quartermaster, Materials and POL Department under the GLD of the PLA said that troop units' food support is the main position of practicing economy and combating waste, and the saving potential is great.
