BEIJING, Sept. 29 -- Top political advisor Yu Zhengsheng on Sunday addressed a reception marking the 64th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
The Communist Party of China (CPC) has led the Chinese people to achieve widely acknowledged achievements over the past 64 years, he said in Beijing's Great Hall of the People ahead of the anniversary falling on Tuesday.
Yu, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), said the central government will continue to support the governments of the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions in exercising power according to the law, and in developing the two regions.
He stressed that the mainland will expand exchanges and cooperation in an all-round way with the regions.
Efforts will also be made to enhance the political, economic, cultural and social foundations for the peaceful development of relations across the Taiwan Strait, according to Yu.
Furthermore, the senior political advisor promised overseas Chinese that their development in countries in which they take residence will always be a concern of their motherland, and their rights and interests will be protected.
Utmost efforts will be made to unite Chinese both at home and abroad to achieve the Chinese dream, Yu said.
More than 2,800 representatives from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and overseas Chinese communities attended the reception.
The reception was jointly organized by the General Office of the CPPCC National Committee, the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee, the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council, the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council and the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council.
