BEIJING, Sept. 29 -- Party and state leaders will join the public to attend National Day celebrations in Tian'anmen Square in downtown Beijing on Oct. 1, an official press release said on Sunday.

Leaders of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the state are scheduled to present flower baskets to the Monument of the People's Heroes at the center of the square to mark the 64th founding anniversary of the People's Republic of China (PRC).

It will be the first time for the new generation of Party and state leaders to make a group debut in National Day celebrations. The new CPC leaders were elected at a Party national congress in November 2012, and the latest leaders for state organs and top political advisory body came into power in March.

The National Day celebrations will be broadcast live on four channels of China Central Television.

On Oct. 1, 1949, the then Chinese leader Mao Zedong stood at the Tian'anmen Rostrum to declare the founding of the PRC. Two months later, the Chinese government declared Oct. 1 the National Day.
