BEIJING, April 3 (Xinhua) -- Top political advisor Yu Zhengsheng on Wednesday urged news reporting to focus on China's social reality and allow different views to "confront and exchange."

Yu, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), made the remarks when visiting the People's Political Consultative Daily, a flagship publication of the country's top political advisory body.

He called on the newspaper's staff to form a "sharp and realistic" writing style and report more on China's social reality.

He also called on the newspaper to adhere to "a correct political direction" and theories, paths and systems of socialism with Chinese characteristics, and "avoid the tendency of being extreme."

The newspaper, established in 1983, should feature the CPPCC's characteristics and have more lively, enlightening content that is close to readers, Yu said.
