Thailand's Ying Si seized first place at the second installment of CRI's cooking competition show Chopsticks & Beyond. Her Thai salad with Sichuan beef impressed judge Li Bin's gustatory sensibilities.
The first place prize was a set of ceramic knives, but an additional bonus prize was a dinner for Ying and her friends at Transit, a modern Sichuanese restaurant. The guests of the dinner provided reviews of their dining experiences on a narrow spectrum between "great" and "perfect," as they feasted on a balanced selection of dishes specially chosen for the Chopsticks & Beyond party.
The Sichuan fare was both familiar and new. Guests worked their way through the likes of spicy ribs in herbed sticky rice or the Sichuan ham and bamboo rolls infused with litsea cubeba oil and lime juice. Standbys such as 'dan dan' noodles were also accounted for.
The innovative menu at Transit was the perfect course of celebration for Ying's fusion cuisine accomplishments.
