Shanghai Animation Film Studio will collaborate with foreign visual effects experts on future animated films, officials said yesterday.

CGI designers from US-based Autodesk Inc, a software company that helped create the special effects for "Transformers," "Hugo" and "Kung Fu Panda 2" will be involved in the post-production of the studio's new animated movies.

Of the studio's 10 new film projects, most are sequels or remakes of classic animations such as "Monkey King: Flaming Mountain," "Mr. Black 2," the live-action cartoon film "Calabash Brothers" and CG puppet animation "Effendi."

There are also new productions including "Eight-tail Cat" about a cat skilled in martial arts and the fantasy adventure film "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea."

Production will begin on the films this year.
