Yunnan Province in Southwest China is home to the Yi ethnic group. Each year in January, locals from Yongren County celebrate their own fashion show.

The tradition has a history of more than 1300 years. People dress in their most beautiful ethnic costumes to attend the contest and perform folk dances. The participants vary from young children to eighty-year old grandmas. Many tourists flock to the area to take in the performances.

The Yi group’s dancing and singing skills, and their splendid costumes provide an entertaining show while spreading the beauties of Yunnan’s ethnic diversity. Generally, the festival begins on the fifteenth day of the first lunar month and lasts three days.
