Despite a 3-1 win over European champions Serbia in the FIVB World Grand Prix Finals opener here Wednesday, China coach Lang Ping urged her players to improve on game reading.

In the second set, Serbia changed its attacks. The Chinese players did not adapt the change as soon as possible and subsequently lost the set.

Lang Ping said China failed to read the Serbs and did not re-adjust the defense and block system, adding that the team will enhance training to improve.

As to the whole match, Lang Ping showed her satisfaction, saying her team had fully prepared for the Serbs' powerful spikes.

"We also have to change ourselves to put our opponents in difficulty to understand us," said Lang Ping.

China had beaten Serbia 3-2 in a preliminary play on Aug. 18 in Wuhan, China. But Serbia had fielded bench players in that game.

The World Grand Prix Finals kicked off here on Wednesday with six teams in a round-robin format. They are hosts Japan, the United States, Italy, China, Serbia and Brazil.

China will play Italy on Thursday afternoon.
