Radwanska beats Li in Wimbledon thriller

08:27, July 03, 2013

LONDON, July 2 (Xinhua) -- Fourth seed Agnieszka Radwanska edged former French Open champion Li Na in a thrilling quarterfinal showdown to reach the last four here on Tuesday.

Radwanska, last year's beaten finalist, won 7-6 (5), 4-6, 6-2 in two hours and 43 minutes in a match between the two highest-ranked players left in this year's tournament on the Center Court.

"That match was really, really good. I think on a really high level," Radwanska said. "I think this was the match that we proved, you know, top 10 players are playing really good match. From the first point to the last point it was really great battle. She was really playing very well today. Just so, you know, I'm even double happy I could beat her playing, you know, very good tennis."

Radwanska will vie for the final place against Sabine Lisicki, who upset six-time champion Serena Williams on Monday.

Lisichi, the 23rd seed from Germany, displayed an easy confidence and led the way as her diffident opponent Kaia Kanepi hung back several paces behind.

Lisicki took it 6-3, 6-3 in 65 minutes on No. 1 Court.

"I was ready for this match," she said. "I knew from experience I needed to make the switch quickly from beating Serena to get back to business here, and that was what I did so I'm very pleased. I feel no pressure at all. I went out to enjoy my game and win the match. It's a game I love so much and I want to keep it that way. I thought anything was possible before the tournament started. I was as focused today as I was yesterday."

In the day's other two quarterfinal matches, Frenchwoman Marion Bartoli defeated American Sloane Stephens 6-4, 7-5 while Kirsten Flipkens of Belgium beat former champion Petra Kvitova, the eighth seed, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Bartoli will meet Stephens in the other semifinal.
