The Gaza-ruling Hamas movement said Friday its security forces had arrested a group of Palestinians who were planning to ignite unrest and instability in the coastal enclave.

Hamas' ministry of interior said in a statement on its website that the group confessed that they had cooperated with the intelligence services of Israel, the Palestinian National Authority and some Arab countries to incite unrest.

"The arrested members confessed that they travelled to the West Bank and to Arab countries, where one of the members was arrested by our security and he confessed that the group plans unrest in Gaza," said the statement.

Hamas violently seized control of the Gaza Strip in June 2007 and ousted the security forces of secular President Mahmoud Abbas and his Fatah Party.

Efforts to end division between the two rivals failed. On the contrary, tensions between them mounted after the ouster of Egypt' s Islamist President Mohamed Morsi, who belongs to the Muslim Brotherhood, the mother movement of Hamas.

Hamas redeployed its militants on the streets of the Gaza Strip on Friday after a group of youth from Gaza, calling themselves Tamarod (meaning rebels), called on the Gazan people to oppose Hamas.

The group, despite some on-line popularity, is still underground, while Hamas threatens to repress their call for massive protests on Nov. 11.
