Qatar Airways opened a direct air route between Chengdu City in southwest China and Qatar's capital Doha on Tuesday, according to Beijing Daily.

There will be three flights on this route per week and it is the sixth route Qatar Airways has launched to link China with Qatar.

After Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, Chengdu adopted the 72-hour visa-free transit policy. The settlement of almost half of the world’s top 500 companies here, along with strong growth for business and tourism, has attracted foreign airlines to open routes to Chengdu.

Since the beginning of this year, direct routes linking Chengdu with Melbourne, Frankfurt and Doha have been launched respectively. In addition, flight between Chengdu and London will open by British Airway in September.

At least three new international routes will be added every year in the years to come, according to Chengdu authority, which will facilitate passengers to Chengdu, otherwise they will fly here via Beijing, Shanghai or Guangzhou.
