The 2013 Fortune Global Forum was held in the southwest Chinese city of Chengdu from June 6 to 8.
Why Chengdu?
Asked why Chengdu was chosen as the host for Fortune Global Forum, Fortune magazine's Manager Editor Andy Serwer said it was because the city "represents so many trends".
Serwer said Chengdu is the "perfect" city for the forum, which will put Chengdu in the world spotlight.
The forum, organized by Fortune magazine, has been held in Shanghai, Hong Kong and Beijing, and this is the first time it has been held in a southwest city.
Maybe we can find some reasons why Fortune magazine continues to put focus on China from data: in 1999, on the Fortune 500 list, there were only 10 Chinese enterprises; in 2012, this number increased to 76. China ranked second in the number of top companies, second only to the United States.
"China's New Future" is the theme of the forum. Participants who have their own experiences and insights on the future of China have made judgments and predictions.
"China has become a leader in the international economy", "China will continue to be the engine of global economic growth", "China's reform and growth will have a positive impact on Asia and Africa," "China's influence on the world economy is reflected in its increasing status in the international supply chain "...... these ideas in the forum bring out resonance.
Of course, Fortune magazine's choice is also inseparable from the broader context of deepening Sino-U.S. exchanges in recent years. Since China and the United States restored contacts 40 years ago, win-win cooperation has become consensus of the both sides. In the new century, their common interests are expanding, cooperation is expanding and the base of cooperation is consolidating.
In 2012, the United States issued about 1.2 million visas for Chinese, while overnight tourists from the United States to China reached 2.1 million. Sino- U.S. bilateral trade reached nearly 500 billion U.S. dollars. The two economies are each other's second largest trading partner. There are more than 90 inter-governmental exchange mechanisms between the two countries.
14 years ago, when Fortune Global Forum first came to China, the Chinese proposed the strategy to develop western China. Maybe this is just a coincidence in time, but the cooperation between China and the U.S. is no coincidence, and it inevitably welcomes another new starting point.
