BEIJING, June 8 (Xinhua) -- The Australia-China Business Awards, one of Australia's most prestigious awards, announced here their winners for this year Saturday, in recognition of some outstanding enterprises that have successfully contributed to business ties between the two countries.

"As Australian business leaders, we have a remarkable connection with Asia, and opportunity to be part of the Asian century," said Gail Kelly, CEO of Westpac Group, which co-sponsored the awards with the Australian Chambers of Commerce in Greater China.

In a keynote address at the award-giving ceremony, Kelly also said the strength of Australia-China relations is at an all-time high.

The Australia-China relationship is a focus not only among the corporate sector, but also at the government level, she added.

Kelly said the focus was demonstrated by Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard's recent visit to China, where the two countries announced a number of key initiatives, including the Australian dollar's direct convertibility to the RMB, or Chinese yuan.

The Australia-China Business Awards, established in 1993, recognize the contribution made by diverse Australian businesses entering Greater China.

David Olsson, chairman of AustCham Beijing, said the awards came a long way in their 20-year history to showcase companies that have contributed to the vibrant, robust commercial relationship between Australia and China.

"The united Australian Chambers of Commerce across the Greater China region are proud to support iconic Australian businesses to the entrepreneurial enterprises which are breaking new ground in China," he said.
