HANOI, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam's industrial production index (IPI) is estimated to plunge down 10.1 percent in February over the same period last year, Vietnam's General Statistics Office reported on Thursday.
Of which, the index of the mining industry and quarrying sector down 7 percent in February year-on-year, the processing and manufacturing down 12.4 percent, electricity and fuel production, distribution remained unchanged, and water supply, waste and rubbish treatment up 9.7 percent.
Most of products reported decrease in February, including shipbuilding and servicing down 48.5 percent, motored vehicle down 29 percent, wrinkling and packing paper down 26.3 percent, according to GSO.
Meanwhile, only several products reported increases including spare parts for motored vehicles (up 24.3 percent), fertilizer and nitric compound (13.6 percent) and beer production (6.5 percent).
The decrease in the country's February IPI is attributed to the long traditional Lunar New Year holiday with nine days off from working.
As of Feb. 1, 2013, the inventory index of the processing and manufacturing sector saw an increase of 19.9 percent year-on-year.
