NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen announced on Friday that the military alliance would hold its next summit in Britain in 2014.
"I warmly welcome the offer by the government of the United Kingdom to host the 2014 NATO summit, which has been welcomed and accepted by allies," Rasmussen said in a statement.
Rasmussen said he expected the summit to "deliver an alliance which is strong, flexible, modern and ready to deal with any security threat, based on the vital transatlantic bond."
"The summit will be an opportunity to mark the conclusion of our ISAF mission at the end of next year, while opening a new chapter in NATO's engagement with Afghanistan," he said.
The dates and venues for the summit have not yet been decided.
