SEOUL, Aug. 28 -- A South Korean jet trainer crashed on Wednesday in the country's southwestern city of Gwangju, killing two pilots aboard, Yonhap News Agency reported.

The T-50 jet trainer crashed and burned as of 2:08 p.m. local time at farmlands near the South Korean Air Forces base in Gwangju, around 330 kilometers south of Seoul, the country's capital.

The incident killed the two pilots, including a major and a captain, who had been conducting a flight training mission.

This is the first time that the T-50 crashed. The model is an advanced South Korean trainer and light attack aircraft jointly developed by Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI), South Korean aerospace company, and the U.S.-based Lockheed Martin for eight years through 2005 with around 2 trillion won (1.8 billion U.S. dollars) invested.

A fact-finding team was formed to investigate into the cause of the incident.
