JAKARTA, July 22 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian elite anti-terrorism unit shot dead two suspected terrorists and arrested two others on Monday in the eastern part of Java island, local media reported.
The four were ambushed in a coffee store in Tulungagung Regency of East Java province on Monday morning, Indonesian news portal detik.com said.
"The four militants have been chased by the national police for a long time, they resisted arrest and exchanged fire with the police," Indonesia's counter-terrorism chief Ansyaad Mbai was quoted as saying.
Ansyaad said the police gunned down two militants and injured two others, adding that their remains had been taken to the nearby hospital.
The police have confirmed the four suspected terrorists' identities, Indonesian Antara news agency reported.
Antara said the two suspects who were shot dead carried revolvers and self-made bombs in their backpacks and are believed to be members of a terrorist group operating in Poso, an area considered a hotbed of terrorism on east Indonesia's Sulawesi island.
Indonesia has mounted a crackdown against terror networks over the past decade and has largely dismantled some of the deadliest groups, with only low-impact attacks carried out in recent years.
