NEW DELHI, June 7 (Xinhua) -- A MiG-21 aircraft of the Indian Air Force crashed on Friday in the western Indian state of Rajasthan with the pilot ejecting safe and sound, said a defense spokesman.
Defense spokesperson S.D. Goswami told the media the crash took place near Sodiyar village at around 9 a.m. local time, after taking off from Uttarlai airbase on a routine training sortie.
The pilot ejected safe and there was no reported loss of any civilian life or damage to property.
India is phasing out its old Mig fighters and replacing them with more advanced aircraft from Europe and Russia.
