SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir, June 6 (Xinhua) -- Two militants including a divisional commander of Jaish-e-Mohammed ( JeM) militant outfit were killed and an Indian army soldier was wounded in gunfight in Indian-controlled Kashmir, police said Thursday.

The gunfight broke out Wednesday evening at village Achagoza in Pulwama district, around 61 km south of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.

"A divisional commander Altaf Baba and his associate Abbas Nengroo were killed in a gunfight, which concluded today," Brigadier Raju Nanda. "The gunfight triggered after contingents of army and police cordoned the area on specific intelligence suggesting presence of militants."

Police said Baba was killed Wednesday night before firing was suspended for the night and resumed early Thursday resulting in the killing of Nengroo.

"A trooper was also wounded Wednesday evening and he was immediately hospitalized," said a police official.

Army also claimed recovery of two assault rifles and some ammunition from the gunfight site.

A residential house was also gutted in the exchange of fire between militants and government forces, locals said.

Reports said hundreds of people attended the funeral of slain commander at village Aglar Kandi.

Meanwhile protesters in Pulwama town overturned a police vehicle in which six policemen were injured, a police official said.

Last week two militants of Hizbul Mujahideen were killed during a gunfight in Shopian district, around 48 km south of Srinagar.

A guerrilla war has been going on between separatist militants and Indian troops in Indian-controlled Kashmir since 1989.
