NY Brooklyn Bridge temporarily closed over suspicious vehicle

NEW YORK, May 27 (Xinhua) -- The New York police shut down traffic in both directions on the Brooklyn Bridge for an hour at the end of a holiday weekend on Monday evening, due to a suspicious vehicle.

Police bomb squad was searching an abandoned SUV with no license plate located in the middle of the Manhattan-bound lanes. The pedestrian walkway was also shut down in both directions. Authorities declared the all-clear about two hours later, with traffic resuming soon after.

The bridge has been closed before because of suspicious packages.

In October 2010, the bridge was shut down for less than an hour over a report of a suspicious package that turned out to be a false alarm. In June 2009, three empty black suitcases on the bridge shut it down for just over an hour.
