LONDON, May 22 (Xinhua) -- Two men attacked one man in Woolwich in Southeast London on Wednesday afternoon, leaving one dead, and two injured, Britain's Metropolitan Police (MPS) said.

The two attackers were carrying weapons and were shot by police arriving on the scene. They have been taken to separate hospitals for treatment, MPS Commander Simon Letchford said.

"At approx 1420 we were called to reports of an assault in John Wilson Street, Woolwich where one man was being assaulted by two other men. A number of weapons were reportedly being used in the attack, and this included reports of a firearm," Letchford said.

The attacked man was later pronounced dead, with local media reports saying he was a soldier. British Ministry of Defense has not confirmed the information.

British government sources said the attack could be "terror related," according to local media reports.

British Prime Minister David Cameron said the killing in Woolwich is "truly shocking" and he has asked the Home Secretary Theresa May to chair an emergency Cobra security committee meeting, while on his way for a visit to France.
