BERLIN, April 18 (Xinhua) -- A suspicious package which contained butyric acid was discovered in the mail room of Berlin Town Hall, no one was threatened, confirmed the Berlin city government on Thursday.
The package was addressed to Berlin Mayor Klaus Wowereit, and was discovered on Wednesday at about 9 o'clock in the morning. A bottle of smelly and colorless liquid was found in the package.
Police were immediately alerted. The liquid was tested and turned out to be butyric acid, which could be corrosive. Plastic gloves were also found in the package.
No one is threatened by the incident, said Wowereit's spokesman Richard Meng, adding that legal actions would be taken. Currently, no one claimed responsibility.
