COPENHAGEN, Mar. 4 (Xinhua) -- The Danish Football Association (DBU) announced Monday that they have suspended Nicklas Bendtner from international football for six months after he was arrested for drunk-driving in Copenhagen downtown last weekend.
Bendtner, 25, is considered the best Danish offensive player currently. He was taken to a police station after being caught driving the wrong way down a street in downtown Copenhagen in the early hours of Sunday morning.
In a statement released Monday afternoon the DBU said, "The DBU have demanded that Nicklas Bendtner take six months off to think over his international future. DBU respects the rights of all players to have a private life, but we also have certain rules that need to be met by international players in their public behavior."
Bendtner is currently playing for Italian Juventus and is expected to get a fine for his last escapade. This is not the first time he makes a bad name for himself on the public scene. At the Euro 2012 he was heavily fined by UEFA after revealing a bookmaker's name on his underpants after scoring a goal.
He is currently sidelined and has not played since December 17, 2012 because of a thigh injury, but was expected to play for Denmark in coming 2014 World Cup qualifiers including one later this month against the Czech Republic.
