Heavy storm rattles Turkey's Aegean region, killing one

ANKARA, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) -- At least one person was killed and another missing as heavy rain and wind hit the provinces of Aegean region in Turkey, local newspaper Today's Zaman reported on Monday.

In the Cesme town of Aegean Izmir province, a fishing boat capsized early on Monday, killing one businessman, who was one of three on the boat when the storm capsized it, according to the report.

The Antalya Governor's Office said in a statement on Sunday that heavy rain and storms were expected across Antalya on Monday and schools in the central region and 17 additional districts would be closed.

In Koycegiz town of Mugla province, a group of 14 students were stranded on Sandiras Mountain at 1,300 meters of altitude when a snowstorm hit the mountain area on Sunday. The students sent a distress signal and rescue teams were deployed to the area, said the report.
