BEIJING, July 4 (Xinhua) -- The Ministry of Education on Thursday asked local authorities and colleges nationwide to ensure transparency in enrollment.
College enrollment is currently under way, nearly one month after the conclusion of the annual national college entrance exams.
Wang Liying, chief commissioner of supervision and a member of the ministry's leading group, said enrollment must be carried out in a clean way, adding that enrollment that is conducted in exchange for money or other gifts must be prevented.
Wang urged authorities to strengthen supervision over the enrollment process and swiftly respond to tips regarding suspected violations.
Wang said those who abuse their power, neglect their duties, bend the law for personal gain or engage in fraudulent activity will face harsh punishment.
The ministry also asked local authorities to make the enrollment process more transparent and ensure that students' personal information is secure.
The ministry said in a statement in late May that college admission granted to those who have violated relevant regulations will be revoked.
