The fourth general assembly of the Association of Asian Parliaments for Peace (AAPP) started in Manila Monday morning.
Speaker Jose de Venecia of the Philippine House of Representatives addressed the opening ceremony to welcome all delegates.
AAPP President, Chairman of China's National People's Congress Standing Committee Wu Bangguo made a keynote speech at the opening ceremony.
The theme of the meeting is "Towards A Hundred Years of Peace in Asia." Delegates are expected to discuss political, economic, peace and security, and women and youth issues during the meeting.
Delegates will approve the Manila Declaration at the end of themeeting.
The AAPP, formally launched in the Bangladeshi capital of Dhaka in September 1999, now has 37 members and is the largest regional parliamentary organization in Asia and the most influential platform and channel for dialogue among Asian parliaments and lawmakers.
