President of the Association of Asian Parliaments for Peace (AAPP) Wu Bangguo presided over the AAPP Executive Council Meeting Sunday in Manila.
During the meeting, Wu, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China, made a report on the lastAAPP Executive Council Meeting held in Beijing in January.
He also recommended Speaker Jose de Venecia of the Philippine House of Representatives be elected the next AAPP president and congress leaders from other countries be elected vice presidents.
De Venecia introduced the agenda of the 4th General Assembly ofAAPP which will open on Monday.
The participants also discussed issues concerning the presidersand reporters of working groups and made preliminary recommendations.
All the participants will be divided into four working groups to discuss political, economic, peace and security, and women and youth issues, respectively.
With the theme "Towards A Hundred Years of Peace in Asia," the three-day assembly is expected to issue a "Manila Declaration" on the consensus and fruits achieved.
The AAPP, formally launched in the Bangladeshi capital of Dhakain 1999, now has 37 members and is the largest regional parliamentary organization in Asia and the most influential platform and channel for dialogue among Asian parliaments and lawmakers.
