China's Vice-Premier Wu Bangguo stressed the need to find new jobs for its millions of laid-off workers, saying that the whole society should show care of and support for the work.
China's Vice-Premier Wu Bangguo has stressed the need for China to find new jobs for its millions of laid-off workers, saying that the whole society should show care of and support for the work.
"The deepening of the reform of state-owned enterprises and the economic restructuring efforts will lead to the withdrawal of more disadvantaged enterprises out of the market, hence producing ever-increasing pressure for re-employment," the vice-premier said during a two-day work tour (April 12-13) to Chengdu, a metropolis in southwest China's Sichuan Province.
While China should continue to improve its social security system, Wu said, its focus should be gradually shifted to finding new jobs for the laid-offs.
The vice-premier stressed that greater efforts have to made in developing the service sector in the economy, particularly community-centered services, as well as the private businesses to create more jobs.
He also urged local authorities to more faithfully and strictly implement all government policies designed to promote re-employment for laid-off workers.
