Vice-Premier Stresses Re-employment of Laid-offs
Chinese Vice-Premier Wu Bangguo stressed the need for China to find new jobs for its millions of laid-off workers, saying that re-employment is the most reliable social security.
Chinese Vice-Premier Wu Bangguo stressed to find new jobs for its millions of laid-off workers, saying that re-employment is the most reliable social security.
"Re-employment is related to the essential interests of the workers as well as the general undertakings of China's on-going economic reform, development and stability. It is not only an economic issue, but also a political issue," the vice-premier said during a visit to Chongqing city in southwest China.
Accompanied by Chongqing party chief He Guoqiang and mayor Bao Xuding, Wu inspected the local labor markets, met with representatives of re-employed laid-off workers and heard briefings by officials on the local re-employment situation.
He noted that while China should continue improving its social security system, its focus should be shifted to re-finding new jobs for the laid-offs.
There must be a supportive policies environment, strengthened vocational training, improved intermediary services and sincere and actual care of laid-off workers, the vice-premier said.
While resources of the whole society should be mobilized to lighten laid-off workers' hardships, the latter should also strive to help themselves, he added.
