Baokang Nine Road Village Eco-tourism Area

Nine Road Village Scenic Area is located at the southwest frontier area of Baokang County, striding Xiema and Maliang towns. It also borders Yichang, Xingshan and other places. About 128 kilometers away from Baokang County, Nine Road Village has an average elevation over 1,200 meters, and a maxima elevation of 1,426 meters. Nine Road Village Tourist Attraction is surrounded by six rivers, namely Zhankou River, Tangping River, Nanmen River, Bawang River, and Luoguzhai River. It has 170 square kilometers of land fallen into protection zone, and 90 square kilometers of land covered by construction plan, highly deserving its reputation as rare high-end large bio-tourism area.

The tourist attraction brims with breathtaking sceneries and rich bio-resources. This land, with intact bio-system remained, features singular karst landform, vast virgin forest, grand valleys and waterfalls, according to reviews of experts. Among its more than 100 scenic spots, 5 are of superior level, and 34 excellent level. Yellow Dragon Cave, Elephant Trunk Mountain, Buddha Waterfall, Liubo Pyeong, Luogu Village River are most representative scenic spots here. Besides, Nine Road Village is the hometown of Wu Defeng, the first mayor of Wuhan City after the founding of new China. Sun Xiuzhang, the local tyrant before liberation, also dwelled here as long-term settlement for geographic strategic consideration. This village, which can be accessible by nine steep and winding footpaths, stands in a precipitous position rendering itself extremely difficult to be attacked, and also boasts unique and diverse folk customs.

In 2009, Wuhan Sante Cableway invested RMB1 billion for the overall development of Nine Road Village Bio-tourism Area. Sante Cableway decided to put various facilities like cableway, self-driving campsite, backpack campsite, and high-end resort hotel in place, helping tourists enjoy the grand, unique and beautiful landscape and well-protected bio-environment here through activities like traversing forest, gorge and waterfall sightseeing, drift, cave adventure, going against brook stream. As envisioned by the group, the tourist attraction will, with forest tour as theme, hotel system as service basis, leisure and fun as catchwords, be built into a central garden in Hubei based on “one river and two mountains” (Three Gorges, Wudang Mountain, Shennongjia); the bio-friendly and landscape village with richest leisure elements in Central China; and the center connecting to Three Gorges and Shennongjia tourist attractions for leisure-seeking and self-driving tour and distribution of middle and high-end tourists. Nine Road Village Eco-tourism Area, as part of the efforts to build a Baokang-centered Dajing Mountain Bio-tourism Zone, will upgrade Hubei from a hot destination for traditional sightseeing tour to a hot destination for bio-tour and leisure-tour; and a tourist distribution center for local tour and tour to “one river and two mountains” in west Hubei. At present, the first phase of development project is underway with tremendous momentums.
