Perching at the top of Mountain Longzhong, Dragon Flying Pavilion is an out five and inner nine structured architecture judged from its appearance. Formerly termed as Far Vision Pavilion in the Five Dynasties, the pavilion weathered through Ming and Yuan dynasties and was finally reduced to ruins only with footing faintly visible since its mountain top position made maintenance mission an extremely tough challenge. Therefore, the pavilion failed to be included into Longzhong Top Ten Scenic Spots in Chenghua years of Ming Dynasty (1465-1487). In Qing Dynasty, Zhuge Liang was highly revered by Emperor Kangxi, who once wrote an article titled Zhuge Liang, the Only Exception to show his admiration. The damaged pavilion got repaired when inspector to Jingxiang area conducted a thorough overhaul for Zhuge Liang Memorial Hall. The renovated pavilion was renamed into Dragon Flying Pavilion to indicate that Zhuge Liang, a man dubbed “Crouched Dragon”, soared to the stage of history from Longzhong. In 1998, Longzhong Tourism Attraction Administration has the pavilion reinforced and maintained, and circled with white marble railing. Taking on a brand-new look, the pavilion looks like a taking-off dragon on the top of Mountain Longzhong.
