Thatched Cottage Pavilion was rebuilt in the 59th Year under the reign of Emperor Kangxi in Qing Dynasty (1972) on its original site, as a memorial architecture to pay respect to Zhuge Liang’s early life here. Sitting adjacent to the pavilion is an earth mound standing about 10 meters in height and spreading 100 square meters in area. The earth mound is the relic of mausoleum built by Duke Xiangjian Zhu Jianshu for himself in the first year under the reign of Emperor Hongzhi in Ming Dynasty (1489). To clear the way for his own mausoleum, Duke Xiangjian Zhu Jianshu forced all residents here to relocate to other places, demolished the original thatched cottages where Zhuge Liang once lived, making none of original civil engineering projects and steles left. Ironically, Duke Xiangjian’s mausoleum was destroyed by the insurrectionary army led by Li Zicheng later. All the mausoleum architectures above ground were damaged then.
