Knee-holding Pavilion was built by Zhao Hong’en, Inspector to Yun and Xiang in the 58th Year under the reign of Emperor Kangxi in Qing Dynasty (1719) in commemoration of Zhuge Liang, who often chanted song in his residence with knees held by his hands. The current Knee-holding Pavilion was rebuilt over its original position by Cheng Wenbing from the 14th to 17th Year under the reign of Emperor Guangxu (1888-1893). It is said what lying above the land where the pavilion stands was a huge stone, on which Zhuge Liang often sat in his spare time to sing The Ode to Liang Fu, a popular song of his Shandong hometown, venting out his homesick sentiments and unrealized lofty ambitions.
