Nine years ago, Zhou Zhenbo was just a temporary worker in Shanghai manufacturing electrical equipment. Now, a workshop superintendent at Delixi Group, Zhou is also a deputy to National People's Congress, and vows to be a responsible spokesman for farmers.
Zhou was born in Guangping county, Hebei province in 1976. His mother died when he was young, so he was raised by his father. After finishing middle school, Zhou joined the army, forming what he calls "the spirit of being tough and continuous self-improvement" during four years' service.
After retirement from the army in 2004, Zhou had a hard time finding a job in Shanghai because of his low education and age. But Delixi decided to give him a chance that later changed his fate. The normal three-month probation period was shortened to one month due to Zhou's diligence and integrity.
The firm also benefited hugely by recruiting Zhou, who saved the company 200,000 yuan ($32,123) each year from his technological innovation.
Zhou joined the Communist Party of China in October 2007, and won the honor of Famers of the Nation in November 2008.
Zhou said it is an honor to be the NPC deputy and he will help make the voice of farmers heard. He urges the government to improve the working conditions of migrant workers, enhance their social status, and facilitate the non-compulsory education of their children.
