The BlackBerry 10 mobile platform is seen after being unveiled January 30, 2013 in New York City.

The company behind the Blackberry, Research In Motion, has announced that it has changed its name to BlackBerry. The news comes as the company unveiled new phones that have more features and a faster browser.

Thorsten Heins, chief executive of Blackberry, said, "From this point forward, RIM becomes BlackBerry. It is one brand. It is one promise. Our customers use a BlackBerry. Our employees work for BlackBerry and our shareholders are owners of BlackBerry. From today on, we are BlackBerry everywhere in the world."

The name change was announced as the Canaidan company unveiled a long-delayed line of smartphones that it says will help put the company back at the top of the mobile phone market. The new BlackBerry 10 phones will compete with Apple’s iPhone and devices using Google’s Android technology, both of which have soared above the BlackBerry. The Blackberry 10 operating system boasts fast browsers, new features and smart cameras. Unlike previous models, they also have a large app library, including services such as Skype and the popular game Angry Birds.
