At the meeting with the think tank on Friday, Party watchdog head Wang Qishan said the 18th Party congress report and Xi's recent speeches have made clear the "extreme importance and urgency" of anti-corruption work.

He vowed to severely punish corrupt officials and push forward the building of a sound prevention and punishment system.

A number of corrupt officials were recently exposed nationwide, and the term "counter-corruption" has become a popular keyword on Weibo, where Web users have been discussing ways to support whistle-blowers.
