2 dead in New Delhi building collapse

NEW DELHI, Nov. 5 (Xinhua) -- Two people were killed and four others injured after a three-storey building under construction collapsed in central New Delhi on Thursday, while several people were feared trapped under the rubble, a local fire department official said.

The incident occurred in the Chawri Bazar area, where a narrow lane prevented heavy machinery from reaching the site, hampering the search-and-rescue efforts. Rescue work was being carried out by hand, said the official.

The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital, the official said.

The area is known for narrow lanes and bustling markets, attracting large crowds from nearby areas to buy sweets, wedding cards, and bathroom and kitchen fittings.
