Int'l philanthropy forum in Hong Kong highlights sports spirit, charity

HONG KONG, Sept. 7 (Xinhua) -- The Philanthropy for Better Cities (PBC) Forum 2026 opened on Monday in Hong Kong, bringing together around 2,000 delegates from diverse sectors to explore the transformation, challenges, and opportunities shaping the philanthropic landscape.

Marking its 10th anniversary, the forum, convened by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust in association with the Institute of Philanthropy, explores how qualities from sport, such as discipline, focus, resilience and teamwork, can be transformed into a powerful force for philanthropy, generating deeper and more enduring social impact.

Chan Kwok-ki, chief secretary for administration of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government, said that Hong Kong has a solid philanthropic foundation and is dedicated to becoming a global philanthropy hub. He said he looked forward to deepening cross-sector collaboration through the forum to jointly build a brighter, safer, and more sustainable future.

Martin Liao, chairman of the Hong Kong Jockey Club, said that over the past decade, the forum has brought together more than 10,000 participants and over 380 speakers from more than 40 countries and regions, establishing itself as one of the world's largest philanthropic assemblies.

The Hong Kong Jockey Club and its charities trust officially released the first edition of the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust Impact Report Monday, systematically outlining core principles including targeted resource allocation, project sustainability, and long-term assessment mechanisms.
