Taiwan is not a country and there is no such thing as "national dignity," says Chinese embassy in Japan

TOKYO, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- In response to remarks made by the so-called "Taiwan's Representative in Japan," the Chinese Embassy in Japan said on Monday that Taiwan is not a country and there is no such thing as "national dignity" for it.

A spokesperson for the embassy said that there is but one China in the world, and Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory. The Government of the People's Republic of China is the sole legal government representing the whole of China. This is the prevailing consensus in the international community.

The so-called "Taiwan's Representative in Japan" recently claimed that Taiwan's "national dignity" and status have been deliberately downgraded, which is regrettable and disappointing, adding that a "solemn protest" has been lodged.

By overreaching itself to grab attention everywhere, Taiwan will only bring disgrace to itself, the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson also noted that the only reference to the Taiwan region at the United Nations is "Taiwan, Province of China."
