1 Chinese tourist dead in motorcycle accident in Thailand
BANGKOK, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese tourist died, and his daughter was injured in a motorcycle accident in Pattaya, Chonburi Province, Thailand on Thursday, local media reported on Friday.
The Chinese Embassy in Thailand told Xinhua on Friday evening that it had received information about casualties of Chinese citizens, and immediately contacted the police department and the hospital involved, requesting active treatment for the injured and proper preservation of the bodies of the deceased.
The embassy has contacted the relatives of the deceased in China, informed them of the situation, and will provide assistance to the families in dealing with the aftermath in Thailand.
According to local media reports, the Chinese man and his daughter had rented a motorcycle to ride to a viewpoint on Ko Lan Island. When they reached a downhill section, the motorcycle lost control and fell off a cliff, resulting in the 51-year-old father's death at the scene and the daughter's injuries.
After receiving a report, local police went to the scene, sent the injured to the hospital, and placed the deceased's body in the hospital for the family to claim. The exact cause of the accident remains under investigation.
