WASHINGTON, July 13 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President Donald Trump formally notified Congress that the United States has resumed military operations against Iran, U.S. media reported on Monday.
The notification letter, dated Friday, has raised questions about whether Trump can continue military operations without congressional authorization.
Congress has directed Trump to either end the war or seek approval to continue it, but he has maintained that he has the authority to make that decision.
Earlier Monday, Trump said on social media that the United States was reinstating a naval blockade on Iran in the Strait of Hormuz and would impose a 20-percent toll on all cargo shipped through the strategic waterway.
