Pakistan's PM calls for preserving regional peace in phone call with Iranian president
ISLAMABAD, July 11 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday held a telephone conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, discussing regional peace, bilateral ties and the implementation of peace agreements, according to a statement from the Prime Minister's Office.
Sharif expressed deep concern over the recent escalation in regional tensions and stressed the urgent need to restore peace and stability, said the statement.
He also underscored the importance of upholding commitments under the peace memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States, describing it as a framework for promoting mutual understanding, respect and shared prosperity.
The prime minister reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to regional peace and said the country was ready to continue facilitating dialogue and supporting efforts aimed at preserving stability, according to the statement.
The Iranian president reiterated Iran's commitment to peace and appreciated Pakistan's constructive role in promoting regional stability.
